The Feeling of Falling
A post-pilgrimage poem by Kathryn Overall
September 2019, Welcome Bay, Tauranga.
I’m ready for the feeling of falling.
This restful flow is growing old.
Inching onwards,
Drifting deeply,
Slower than slow, almost
stopping.
Up ahead,
The sound of moving water
Rapid swift
The speed of life!
I’m ready for the plunge
Ready for the sudden
drop
The letting go;
Acceleration of heart and pulse
The stomach-thrilling fall
As soul trips forwards
Alive in the white rush flow,
The far-flung splash.
It’s the falling that generates new energy.
Surrender to the plunge
As the old trees watch they know:
Still waters run fast
When the
drop
comes.
I’m ready for the feeling of falling.
